Why We Built a Grant Search Engine That Reaches Almost Every Country on Earth
How we built a grant search engine that reaches hundreds of thousands of funding opportunities from nearly every country with an active grant-making sector — and the ten specific places we beat the other platforms you have looked at.

President, Grant Search US
Most grant tools stop at the U.S. border. They pull from Grants.gov, maybe a handful of state portals, and call it a database. If you work for a nonprofit in Kenya, a research lab in Germany, a social enterprise in India, or a university in Brazil, those tools have nothing for you.
We thought that was wrong. So we spent the last year building something different — a grant search engine that reaches hundreds of thousands of funding opportunities from nearly every country with an active grant-making sector. This post explains what we built, why it matters, and how it differs from every other platform out there (without naming names).
The Problem We Saw
A researcher in Nairobi told us she had to scan six different government websites, three foundation lists, and a university bulletin board every week just to know what was open. A nonprofit director in Manila spent two days a month checking embassies and corporate giving pages. A small NGO in rural Colombia missed a European Union call because no one told them it existed.
These people are not lazy. They are working with tools that only see one country.
We decided to fix that.
What We Built
Our database now pulls grants from sources across the world. Here is the short version of what is inside:
- Federal and national government grants from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the European Union, and dozens more.
- State, provincial, and regional government grants — not just the federal layer, but the local and regional funding that often fits smaller organizations better.
- Foundation grants from Candid, IRS 990 filings, the UK Charity Commission, national charity registers across Europe, and private foundations across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
- Corporate giving programs — the ones companies run through their foundations and the ones run through their CSR offices.
- Research council grants — NIH, NSF, the European Research Council, UK Research and Innovation, the Australian Research Council, Horizon Europe, CORDIS, and national science foundations in dozens of countries.
- Multilateral and development grants — the World Bank, the UN agencies, the Gates Foundation, bilateral aid agencies, and global health funders.
- International funder profiles — we track giving histories, board members, and past awards for thousands of foundations worldwide, not just a name and a link.
That is hundreds of thousands of live opportunities, refreshed on a rolling schedule, in one search.
How It Is Different
We have looked at the other platforms. Here is where ours stands apart.
1. We do not stop at the U.S. border
The biggest grant tools on the market pull from Grants.gov and a few foundation lists, and that is the whole product. Step outside the United States and they go blank. We built ours from the start to reach across borders, so a user in one country can find a funder in another.
2. We track the funder, not just the grant
A grant listing tells you what is open today. A funder profile tells you who this funder is, what they have funded in the past, how much they give, who sits on their board, and whether they are a fit for your work. We build profiles for thousands of international funders — not just U.S. foundations — so you can research the relationship before you apply.
Other platforms hand you a name and a deadline. We hand you the story.
3. We cover research councils worldwide
Research institutions need to know what is open at NIH, NSF, the European Research Council, UK Research and Innovation, Horizon Europe, CORDIS, and the national science foundations of dozens of countries. We pull all of it. Most competitors pull one or two.
4. We include development and multilateral funding
The World Bank, UN agencies, bilateral aid agencies, and global health funders publish calls that NGOs and research institutions can apply for. We track those. Other platforms ignore them or bury them.
5. We normalize country data into one search
Grant listings come in dozens of formats — different date styles, different currency codes, different field names. We normalize all of it into one consistent search. You filter by country, by funder type, by amount, by deadline, and by eligibility, and the results line up.
Most platforms do not bother. They show you raw text and leave you to figure out the rest.
6. We keep the data fresh
We run rolling syncs on every source. Deadlines update. Closed grants drop off. New calls appear within days, not months. A stale grant database is worse than no database — it wastes your time. We treat freshness as a feature.
7. One search across every source
You do not need to know whether a grant came from a foundation, a government portal, or a research council. You type what you do, set your filters, and you see every match we have — from anywhere in the world — in one list.
Other platforms make you pick a source first. We think that is backwards.
8. We show you where the data came from
Every grant shows its source and the last time we checked it. You can trust the data because you can see where it came from. Other platforms hide the source or do not track it.
9. We help you apply, not just find
Once you find a grant, we help you draft the application — in your voice, with your organization's profile, with the funder's past awards in mind. Most international grant search tools stop at the listing. We stay through submission.
10. We are still adding countries
We are not done. Every month we add more national portals, more charity registers, more corporate giving programs, and more research councils. If your country is not well covered yet, it will be.
Who This Helps
- Researchers who want to apply across borders and find international collaborators.
- Nonprofits who work across regions or want to grow their funder base beyond domestic foundations.
- Social enterprises looking for development grants and impact funding.
- Universities coordinating international research partnerships.
- NGOs in lower-income countries who deserve the same access to funding information as anyone in Washington or London.
A Final Word
We built this because the grant world does not stop at any border, and your search tool should not either. Hundreds of thousands of opportunities, from nearly every country with an active funder, in one place.
If you work across borders, try the search. You will find grants you did not know existed.
